Yashica J

A little over two years ago I found a 1961 Yashica J camera at an antique store in downtown Riverside. Right away I knew I had to buy it. Initially, the lady who ran the store wanted 50 dollars for it. After haggling, we decided that 35 dollars was a fair price for a camera that needed repairs. I brought it in to the Ritz Camera in Riverside and it needed about 70 dollars in repairs and cleaning. All together the camera cost about 100 dollars.

A couple of months later some of my friends from work and I headed over to the beach, I brought the Yashica J. We had fun, took pictures, and returned home. Like an idiot, I had stored the camera in the front pocket of my backpack along with my phone and keys. At home I realized that the camera’s focus ring had broken. I was devasted.

For over a year it was stored inside a camera bag with other photography equipment. Until today, when I stumbled upon it by accident. I examined it closely trying to figure out why it didn’t work. Out of nowhere, I noticed the small screw that was loose on the focus ring. All I had to do was tighten it up and it was fixed.

The first set is of the fixed camera and the second is from the first batch of pictures taken with the Yashica J over two years ago.
